“Happy art thou, O Israel: who is like unto thee, O people saved by the Lord, the shield of thy help, and who is the sword of thy excellency! And thine enemies shall be found liars unto thee: and thou shalt tread upon their high places.” Deuteronomy 33:29
Stop for a minute, child of God, and remind yourself of something…you are blessed! God’s people are blessed in those things that really matter. Things like forgiveness of sins, being justified in God’s sight, a bright eternal future, God’s sufficient grace, and the love of God’s people to name a few. God is our shield, our help, and has guaranteed the final overthrow of all enemies to His glorious cause! We’re so favored by God that the verse communicates there is no one so well off as those loved by Jehovah!
You may not be wealthy today in the world’s good. Your health may be a wreck, you may have family problems and burdens of looming challenges weighing you down. But don’t forget, spiritual Israelite, you are blessed of God!
Those who are favored with the mercy of a happy and peaceful home, consider this—I recently read an article discussing the family life of wealthy American football players. Divorce rates were estimated between 60-80%. Some spoke of severe difficulties in, of all things, dealing with money issues with their wives. Adultery was commonplace. How true Solomon’s words are, “Better is little with the fear of the Lord than great treasure and trouble therewith. Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled ox and hatred therewith” (Proverbs 15:16, 17).
Remind yourself often…you are blessed!
