“Be of good courage, and let us behave ourselves valiantly for our people, and for the cities of our God: and let the Lord do that which is good in His sight.”  I Chronicles 18:13

These are the words of Joab, the leader of David’s armies. He was speaking to encourage his lieutenant and brother, Abishai, as they were about to engage in a battle against great enemies. Joab’s admonition is one for us to heed today.

This side of eternity, Christians will always be in the heat of battle. Our enemies are great. But our cause is also great and our King is great. Therefore, we should endeavor to boldly and faithfully serve in the army of our King. We want to battle for the glory of God, but also for the good of His people here. What kind of soldier are you? Are you faithful, sacrificing, and strong in the Lord? Are you distracted from the great cause? Are you limping along in the Christian warfare? Think upon Joab’s words today. Be strong in the Lord. Labor to fight sin, to know Christ better, and to be a witness of light in a dark world. Fight for the good of your family and of the church of Christ Jesus. Then…

“let the Lord to that which is good in His sight.” The battle is the Lord’s. The results are in His wise, sovereign hands. May we be faithful at our battle station and leave the results to our King.
